Licensing

Flow-Like is available under different licensing terms depending on your use case.

License Types

Business Source License (BSL 1.1)

The source-available edition of Flow-Like is released under the Business Source License 1.1, owned by Rheosoph GmbH. The BSL is not an Open Source license before the Change License takes effect.

What this means:

  • ✅ Source access — Inspect, copy, modify, and create derivative works
  • ✅ Non-production use — Granted directly by the BSL terms
  • ✅ Additional production use — Allowed when your use fits the Additional Use Grant
  • ✅ Self-hosting and redistribution — Allowed when you follow the license, retain it with copies, and remain within the Additional Use Grant

Change Date & Future License

For each version, the Change License is MPL 2.0. The BSL terms apply the Change License on the earlier of:

  1. the stated Change Date, which is eight years after publication; or
  2. the fourth anniversary of the first publicly available distribution of that version.

After that point, the version is available under MPL 2.0 and its terms.

Enterprise License

For organizations that need:

  • White-label and resale rights
  • Offering Flow-Like as a hosted service
  • Priority support and SLA
  • Custom development services

Can I use Flow-Like for my company?

Yes, when your organization and use remain within the Additional Use Grant. Large Entities must obtain a separate commercial license before any use.

Can I build products that use Flow-Like workflows?

Building customer-facing products with Flow-Like as the workflow engine may require a commercial license. The deciding factors include whether the product is competitive or substantially similar, whether it is hosted, and whether the organization is a Large Entity.

Can I self-host Flow-Like for my team?

Yes, when your organization and use case remain within the Additional Use Grant. Large Entities and uses that create a Competitive Product or Service require a separate commercial license.

Can I offer Flow-Like as a service to customers?

Offering a hosted, rebranded, or substantially similar workflow product may fall outside the Additional Use Grant. Contact Rheosoph GmbH before offering Flow-Like as a customer-facing service.

Can I modify Flow-Like?

Yes. The BSL grants the right to modify, create derivative works, and redistribute the Licensed Work. Original and modified copies remain subject to the BSL, must conspicuously display the license, and must comply with the use restrictions in effect. Offering a modified version as a service may require a commercial license depending on the use.

What happens after the change date?

That version becomes available under MPL 2.0 on the earlier trigger described above. MPL 2.0 is an Open Source license with its own notice and source-availability requirements.

Enterprise Pricing

Enterprise licensing is priced based on:

  • Deployment type — Embedded, Headless, Hybrid, or a custom combination
  • Scale — Usage and number of customer or internal deployments
  • Support level — Support coverage and SLA requirements
  • Custom work — Integrations, nodes, branding
